ST. LOUIS, MO. – Nathan Kraisser has advanced to the round of 12 at the 2017 NCAA Wrestling Championships with his pair of decision victories on day two.
Kraisser opened up the morning with a 10-7 win over Stanford's Gabe Townsell in the second round of wrestlebacks. He continued his advancement with a 6-0 win over the No. 9 seed Joshua Rodriguez.
With the two victories, Kraisser will take on No. 14 seed Freddie Rodriguez of SIUE for an All-America spot. Rodriguez has taken two victories against Kraisser in the 2016-17 season, including a 12-8 win in the Southern Conference 125-pound final.
Jere Heino picked up a victory in his first contest of the day, a 5-3 win in SV-1, over No. 12 William Miller of Edinboro. Heino's first NCAA tournament finished with a 3-2 loss against Youssif Hemida of Maryland.
Kraisser's matchup against Rodriguez is set for day two, session four, beginning at 8 p.m. on ESPN and ESPN3.
