BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Gavin Londoff's sudden victory in Thursday's final bout helped Appalachian State hold on to an 18-12 win at Campbell inside Gore Arena.
The Mountaineers moved to 6-3 overall and a perfect 4-0 in Southern Conference action with the victory, while handing Campbell (4-7, 1-1 SoCon) its first conference loss of the year.
Appalachian State held a 15-12 edge heading into the 10
th and final match of the night at 149 pounds. Londoff and
Zach Barnes were knotted 4-4 through the end of regulation, and Londoff's escape earned the sudden victory in overtime, clinching the 18-12 win for the Mountaineers.
App. State led 12-3 through five matches, with the lone Campbell victory coming from No. 27
Quentin Perez, 7-6 over Thomas Flitz.
The Camels climbed back with a 3-2 decision for No. 29
Jere Heino over No. 32 Cary Miller at heavyweight, followed by an 8-6 win for No. 23
Korbin Meink over De'Andre Swinson-Barr, cutting the lead to 12-9.
Appalachian State added to its lead with a 10-8 win at 133 for Codi Russell over No. 25
Nathan Boston, but Campbell's
Jonathan Ryan answered with a 10-5 decision, downing Irvin Enriquez at 141 pounds to bring the Camels within three points heading into the final bout.
The Camels will travel to Davidson for their third SoCon bout of the week on Friday. Action begins at 7 p.m. at Belk Arena.
Campbell returns home on February 3, hosting The Citadel.
