Camels top Upstate, claim Big South host spot

WHATS NEXT: Campbell will host Charleston Southern at Eakes Athletics Complex on Sunday, October 28 at 2:00 p.m.

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Alexa Genas netted two goals and Campbell out shot USC Upstate 25 to 12 as Campbell topped the Spartans 4-0 Tuesday night to claim a chance to host a Big South Quarterfinal matchup.

Campbell (6-10-1, 5-4-1) fired off a season high 25 shots and placed 12 as many on frame as Upstate attempted to pace the match. The Camels were able to hold USC Upstate (10-8, 5-5) to just one shot on goal.

"We've talked about our last couple of games being a dress rehearsal for post-season. Post-season is do or die and the girls rose to the challenge tonight," said head coach Samar Azem. "That is the best performance we've had against a very good USC Upstate team."

Alexa Genas netted the match's opening goal in the 41st minute when she gathered a pass from Rosie O'Neal and cut right and then back left around her defender before she finished in the bottom left corner from just inside the 18'.

Right after the break, Anna Brantley finished the set piece after Jessica Donald played the corner kick into the box where she found the head of Brantley for the score. The goal marked the senior's first of the season and fifth of her career- all off set pieces.

Genas rounded out her night with a goal in the 80th minute. The junior from Albuquerque, N.M. took a pass from Emma Bushee and eluded a defender before she finished to the back-right corner of the net. With her two goals on the night, Genas pushed her scoring total to eight on the season and her point total to 17.

Kylee Arno provided the night cap goal with one tick remaining on the clock when she gathered the ball in traffic and finished right down the middle for the final goal. The goal marked her third of the season after goals against South Carolina State in the season opener and at Hampton.

Erin Scott picked up her fifth win and third solo shutout with one saves over 90 minutes of action.
