LYNCHBURG, Va. — Campbell University women's swimming completed the first day of the Liberty Invitational on Friday afternoon.
In the 200 free relay finals, the team of Neringa Cerniauskaite, Annie Sanchez, Maddie Baiotto and Hannah Kendall swam a season-best time of 1:34.56, finishing sixth.
In the 500 free finals, Sanchez was the highest placing Camel, finishing ninth in 5:08.14. Megan Shoemaker swam a career-best 5:07.92 to place 15th.
Karah Sizemore and Kelsey Tunstall finished just 0.07 seconds between each other in the 200 IM, placing 13th and 14th, respectively. Sizemore's time of 2:08.21 set a personal record for the senior, while Tunstall finished in 2:08.29, which was her first 200 IM this season. Amanda Charleston also swam her fastest 200 IM in 2:10.69.
Five Camels that swam in the 50 free finals posted personal- and season-best times, led by Kendall (23.65) and Baiotto (23.96) who were Campbell's top placers, finishing sixth and 15th, respectively.
Campbell's 400-medley relay squad of Megan Everritt, Taylor McMinn, Baiotto and Sarah Wilson placed fourth in the finals with a time of 3:47.79.
The Liberty Invitational continues Saturday at 10 a.m. with the preliminary heats. The finals competition will start at 6 p.m. On Saturday, the event's final day, the prelims will begin at 10 a.m., while the finals are set for a 5 p.m. start.
