CU tops league leader Charleston Southern

Campbell now sits tied for second in the Big South with a 4-1 record alongside the Buccaneers and sit just one loss behind first place Winthrop

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Lou Regen rallied to claim the match clinching point for the Camels, after trailing 0-3 early in the third set, to lift Campbell to a 4-3 win over league leader Charleston Southern Monday afternoon at the Nisbet Tennis Center.

The Camels win over Charleston Southern (8-4, 4-1 Big South) marked the first-time Campbell (8-6, 4-1 Big South) has beaten the Buccaneers since the 2007-08 season when CU downed CSU 4-3 on February 8, 2008.

Regen opened singles play with a 6-1 win in the first set before dropping the second set 2-6. The sophomore from Stockholm, Sweden then reeled off six straight points in the third set, after trailing 0-3, to clinch the point, 6-3, and the match for the Camels at No. 3! With Monday's win over Filippa Ericson, Regen has now won six of her last eight matches and handed Ericson her first loss in conference action this season.

Regen's win came after Campbell clinched the doubles point in dramatic fashion. Lou Regen and Lea Cutura opened doubles play with a 6-3 win at No. 3 over Yana Morar and Kimberly Koerner to give the Camels their first doubles win before CU fell at No. 2.

Alexandra Andrivot and Isabel Boada trailed 5-2 early but rallied to win 7-5 including two match point wins over Sophie Cloessner and Madalina Man. The duo now holds an 8-2 overall record and sit at 4-1 in Big South play.

After claiming the doubles point, CU claimed the first two singles points to finish as Alexandra Nicoara picked up a 6-3, 6-1 win over Madalina Man at No. 4. The sophomore from Romania picked up her fourth win in her last six matches including two consecutive and dropped Man's record to 5-4 on the season.

Georgina Segarra claimed her eighth match in her last nine appearances with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 6 over Yana Morar. Segarra now holds an 8-4 overall record including a 4-1 mark in Big South play and sports a 6-3 mark at No. 6 on the year.

Campbell now sits tied for second place in the Big South Conference standings alongside Charleston Southern. Both teams carry a 4-1 record and sit behind league leader Winthrop who hold a 10-4 overall record and a perfect 4-0 slate in Big South play.

Campbell travels to Winthrop on Saturday, March 24 for a battle for first place. The Eagles have swept three opponents on the year, all being conference matches, while Campbell has swept their opponents three times on the season including a 7-0 win over Presbyterian. The Eagles took down the Blue Hose 6-1 to open conference play on February 27. Saturday's double header alongside the men is set to begin at 10:00 a.m.
