Camels open Big South slate with record day 21-10

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Campbell started Big South play in record-setting fashion Saturday at Gardner-Webb, topping the Runnin' Bulldogs 21-10 at Spangler Stadium.

Campbell moved to 5-6 on the season and 1-0 in Big South competition, while Gardner-Webb dips to 2-9 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

CU posted school single-game records for team points (36) and assists (15), while Kayla Reilly set an individual single-game school mark with seven assists. With three goals to go with her record seven helpers, the senior also tied a single-game school record with 10 points (Loren Day vs. Long Island 3/14/15; Erica Hitch at St. Francis 3/27/15).

Reilly, who added a ground ball in the win, was one of four Camels to log hat tricks on the day. Mackenzie Koeller tallied a game-high five goals with an assist, while Ellie Allen and Melissa Placek both registered three scores each.

Annie Pazulski, Sarah Paul and Sam Carey all added two goals apiece, with Pazulski collecting four assists and Paul tallying two assists.

Placek also chipped in nine draw controls, with Carey posting five.

Megan Reilly gathered four ground balls and caused two turnovers. Sydney Etheridge registered seven saves with a ground ball.

Francis paced Gardner-Webb with three goals, an assist and three ground balls.

Campbell posted 39 total shots with 32 on goal, compared to 23 and 20 for the Runnin' Bulldogs. CU also owned a 19-12 edge on draw controls.

Kayla Reilly was one of three Camels to reach career milestones in the victory. The senior attacker reached 200 career points and 100 assists, also becoming the first Camel to reach 100 career goals, assists and ground balls.

Megan Reilly reached 100 career ground balls, while Koeller surpassed 100 career points, becoming the fifth Camel to hit the mark.

Campbell returns home on Wednesday, April 4, hosting No. 25 High Point at 4 p.m.
