INDIANAPOLIS, IND. –
Annie Pazulski, one of four Camels with hat tricks, tallied a career-high nine points to lead Campbell over Butler, 20-9, Tuesday at Varsity Field.
Campbell (2-4) posted school records for shot attempts (50), and shots on goal (36) in the win, hitting the 20 goal mark for the first time this season, and the 11
th time in the program's six seasons, handing Butler (0-5) its fifth straight loss to open 2018.
Pazulski tied a single-game school record with six assists (Erica Hitch at Mercer, 3/20/16; Annie Cook vs. Kennesaw State, 3/1/15), while collecting three goals for the junior's third career hat trick.
Melissa Placek found the back of the net six times, a Campbell best this season, with four helpers coming from Pazulski.
Mackenzie Koeller and
Ellie Allen also posted three goals for the Camels. Placek tacked on eight draw controls, a ground ball and a caused turnover for CU.
Freshman
Sydney Etheridge, making her first career start in goal, picked up the win, collecting eight saves with a ground ball.
Sam Carey and
Rose Prizzi picked up a game-high four ground balls apiece for the Camels. Carey added nine draw controls, while Prizzi caused a Butler turnover.
Megan Reilly also picked up three ground balls in the win.
Campbell scored the first six goals of the game, with Placek securing the hat trick at the 12:05 mark of the first. CU led 8-1 at the 7:08 mark on Pazulski's first goal of the game before Butler answered with five of the next six scores, cutting the Camel lead to three early in the second stanza.
After Haley Hallenbeck's goal for Butler with 21:23 on the clock in the second, Campbell closed the game on a 10-2 run that included two Pazulski goals and four assists, securing the 20-9 road win.
Campbell's 11 goals in the second matched a season best for scores in a half (first half, East Carolina).
Ashley Guerra paced Butler with three goals and an assist, while Carly Hewitt caused four turnovers with three ground balls and an assist. Haley Rayburn picked up 16 saves.
Campbell rounds out its road trip Thursday, taking on Cincinnati at 3 p.m. The Camels return home on March 14, hosting George Mason.
