ROCK HILL, S.C. - Georgina Segarra picked up her fourth straight singles win and clinched as Campbell defeated Radford 4-1 Thursday night to send Campbell to the semifinals of the Big South Women's Tennis Championship.
Campbell (14-7, 6-2 Big South) claimed the doubles point and the first two singles points before Radford (10-11, 3-5 Big South) picked up its sole singles win.
Georgina Segarra then clinched the match with a three set 6-1, 6-7, 7-5 win at No. 6 for her fourth straight singles win and to improve her overall record to 11-5 including a 9-4 mark at No. 6.
Campbell opened the match by clinching the doubles point to give them an early 1-0 lead.
Ana Castillo and
Georgina Segarra started off doubles action with a 6-1 win at No. 2 before
Lea Cutura and
Lou Regen clinched the doubles point for the Camels with a 6-1 win at No. 3. The win marked the pairs sixth straight win and improved their record to 11-7 on the season and at No. 3.
After claiming the doubles point,
Alexandra Andrivot picked up her fourth straight singles win with a 6-1, 7-6, two set win over Natalie Sayer at No. 2. The win improved the senior's record to 10-9 on the season including a 9-5 mark at No. 2.
Alexandra Nicoara then gave the Camels the 3-0 advantage with a two set 7-5, 6-4 victory at No. 4. The win pushed her overall mark to 8-9 on the season and 7-7 at No. 4. The sophomore has now won four of her last five matches after Thursday's win.
First Team All-Conference Singles selection, Drousile Dzeubou, put Radford on the board with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 win at No. 1 before Segarra clinched the Camels sixth straight win.
The Camels will now face Liberty in the semifinals tomorrow at 2:00 pm. Campbell and Liberty faced each other earlier in the season where the Flames downed the Camels 7-0 but since then the Camels has won eight of its last nine.
