BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell extended its win streak to seven games Saturday with a doubleheader sweep of Presbyterian at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium. The Camels (25-23, 12-9 Big South) claimed the opener 7-2 before defending the Blue Hose (3-40, 1-17) 8-1 in the series finale.
On a day when the Camels honored seniors Lisabeth McCurry and
Melissa Tullar, Campbell sandwiched its second-consecutive Big South series sweep around Wednesday's 3-2 victory at No.-12 South Carolina.
Game One
Megan Mozingo went 3-for-3 with a two-run double and
Rachel McCollum hit her 17th home run of the season to back up a complete-game effort by
Megan Richards (16-9).
CU jumped in front in the first when
Madison Herring led off with a walk, moved to second on a wild pitch and eventually scored on
Caroline Smith's RBI ground out. PC tied the score in the top of the second on consecutive doubles by Megan Anderson and Lindsay Harris.
Hannah McCravy drove in two on a two-out bloop single to right in the bottom of the second, then CU added two more in the third on Mozingo's double to left center field. McCollum blasted a two-run shot to right center field in the sixth to close out the scoring.
Richards allowed two runs on eight hits with two walks and three strikeouts to earn the victory. PC starter Alex Cook (0-15) surrendered five runs, three earned, on three hits and three walks in 2 2/3 innings.
Game Two
Smith homered twice, including a 3-run shot in the third, doubled, and matched her career high with five RBI in the nightcap.
PC starter Kaylee Allen (1-18) gave up four runs on three hits with two walks in two innings. Camel starter
Haley Hutchins (6-6) only gave up one hit in five shutout innings.
Smith hit her 11th home run in the first before launching her 12th to give the Camels a 4-0 lead in the third. She doubled to lead off the fifth and scored on
Katie Manring's RBI single. Mozingo added an RBI hit before Manring stole home on a double steal.
Smith added her fifth RBI on a sacrifice fly in the sixth.
PC collected its lone run in the sixth when Chelsea Lyons doubled down the left field line and later scored on Jonnie Petree's sac bunt.
Campbell returns to action Tuesday with a 7 p.m. start vs. UNCW in its final home game of the season at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium. The Camels will play four road games before the Big South Championship starts May 9 at Radford, Va.
