Camels drop Friday matchup at UNC

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. ­- North Carolina homered three times as the Tar Heels topped Campbell 8-0 Friday night at Anderson Stadium.
 
Brittany Pickett (3 for 3) drove in three runs with a homerun and two doubles to lead the Tar Heels while Zoe Goodman (1 for 2) drove in two more on a two-run shot in the third.
 
North Carolina (30-25) struck first with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Brittany Pickett doubled to left field to drive in Taylor White after she was hit by a pitch with two outs. Kristina Burkhardt then singled up the middle to drive in Pickett for the Tar Heels' second run of the inning.
 
Pickett's second homer came in the third over the center field wall to push the Heels' lead to 3-0 before Carolina added four more runs in the fifth inning. Pickett drove in her third run on a RBI double to left field to score Taylor Wike before back to back homers from Zoe Goodman and Katelyn Shifflett. Taylor Wike added one more run for the Tar Heels in the sixth to seal the game with a single to right field to bring home Leah Murray.
 
Brittany Pickett (27-11) tossed six innings and allowed just two hits while striking out 10 and gave up just one walk. The shutout dropped the sophomore's ERA to 2.30 on the season.
 
Megan Richards (16-11) picked up the loss after giving up five runs, all earned, over four innings of action. The sophomore recorded two strikeouts and walked three after hurling 95 pitches.
 
Campbell's (26-25) only two hits came from Katie Manring and Hadyn Parker. Manring singled up the middle in the second but Campbell could not produce after she got called out at second on a fielder's choice. Parker led off the sixth inning with a single to left field but was stranded their after three straight outs to end the Campbell half.
 
Campbell closes out the regular season Sunday, May 6 at Duke. First pitch is set for 1:30 and the game can be watched live on the ACC Network Extra.
