RADFORD, VA. –
Rachel McCollum drove in three and scored three times to lead No. 4 Campbell over No. 6 Winthrop 12-2 in a Big South Championships elimination game Wednesday at Radford Softball Stadium.
Campbell moves to 28-26 on the year, while Winthrop's season ends at 17-32.
McCollum's three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth gave Campbell the run-rule win. The redshirt sophomore went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks, also scoring on
Katie Manring's two-run single in a seven-run CU second, and on
Lizabeth McCurry's RBI double in the fourth.
Campbell's seven runs in the second came on four hits, a Winthrop error, two walks and a pair of hit by pitches, capped by Perryman's two-bagger. Perryman was 2-for-3 in the win, also scoring a run.
Megan Mozingo, who led off for the Camels with a solo homer to right, went 1-for-2 with three runs.
Melissa Tullar also went 2-for-3 with a run, while Manring was 1-for-3.
Haley Hutchins (8-6) earned the win in the circle, going five innings with two runs, both earned, on seven hits with a strikeout.
Madyson Watson (5-8) was charged with the loss, allowing six runs on three hits with a strikeout and three walks in 1 2/3 innings.
Ashley Westbrooks paced Winthrop at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a run.
Campbell will be back in action at 5 p.m. Thursday, facing the lowest remaining seed between the loser of No. 1 Liberty vs. No. 5 Gardner-Webb and No. 2 Longwood vs. No. 3 Radford.
