Home runs aid Camels’ sweep of Penguins

Kayla Fredendall went 3-for-5 with two homeruns, three RBI and three runs on the day

BUIES CREEK, N.C. ­- Kayla Fredendall belted two home runs on the day and Christa Hall ripped a walk-off home run to clinch the doubleheader sweep of Youngstown State Wednesday afternoon at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.
 
Campbell claimed the first game 8-0 in six innings before Hall's three-run homerun sealed the 6-3 win and the sweep in game two.
 
Campbell (10-15, 2-1 Big South) has now won three in a row and five of its last six contests.
 
Game 1
 
Kayla Fredendall and Megan Mozingo drove in two runs apiece and Megan Richards tossed her eighth complete game, third straight win as the Camels claimed game one.
 
Kayla Fredendall (2-for-2, 2 RBI, 1 run, 2 BB) boosted a two-run first inning by sending an opposite-field solo home run over the right field wall to open things up for the Camels.
 
Fredendall drew a bases loaded RBI walk as a part of a three run second inning for her second RBI of the day.
 
Earlier in the frame, Megan Mozingo (3-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 runs) singled up the middle to bring home Danielle Northrup who was hit by a pitch earlier in the inning.
 
Claudia Ware drove in the first run of the inning on a single to left field which brought home Cassie Wancheck (2-for-3, 1 RBI, 1 run) who singled to open up the inning.
 
After an RBI single from Wancheck in the fifth, Megan Mozingo scored on a bases loaded wild pitch to seal the win.
 
Megan Mozingo scored the prior run in the inning on an RBI single through to right side which scored Claudia Ware.
 
Megan Richards secured her eighth complete game of the season where she allowed no runs and scattered just four hits across six frames to pair with five strikeouts.
 
Game 2
 
Christa Hall crushed a three-run walk off home run over the left field wall and Haley Hutchins tabbed a career-high nine strikeouts to secure to sweep.
 
Hall (1-for-4, 3 RBI, 1 run) fouled of four straight pitches and sent the seventh pitch of the at-bat over the wall in left.
 
After two strikeouts to start the Campbell seventh, Kayla Fredendall (1-for-3, 1 RBI, 2 runs) walked to keep the inning alive before Cassie Wancheck singled to right field which moved Wancheck over to third. One batter later, Hall sent the 1-2 pitch out of the park.
 
Haley Hutchins (4-7) picked up the win by going the distance and allowing three runs over nine hits while recording a career-high nine punch outs.
 
Trailing 2-0, Campbell used a two-run third to tie it up.
 
Bri Bryant drew a leadoff walk and Megan Mozingo singled to center field to set up an RBI single from Abby Perryman through to right side to plate Bryant and move Mozingo over to third.
 
One batter later, Mozingo touched home as the catcher caught Perryman stealing at first.
 
The Penguins (3-12) regained the lead in the fifth on an sac fly to right field which scored Lexi Zappitelli but the Camels answered back in home half.
 
Kayla Fredendall sent her second home run of the day over the center field wall to tie it up, 3-3, before Hall's game ending hit in the seventh.

Campbell travels to Hampton this weekend to resume conference play with action slated for Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m. before the final game on the series on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
