No. 13 Duke defeats Camels

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Charlotte North scored seven goals and assisted on a pair to lead No. 13 Duke past Campbell Tuesday night at Barker-Lane Stadium.

The Blue Devils moved to 8-3 on the season, sending Campbell to 3-7 overall in the final nonconference outing of the regular season for the Camels.

Six of North's seven scores came in the first half, helping visiting Duke build a 15-3 lead by the break. The sophomore was a perfect 4-for-4 on free position attempts, helping the Blue Devils convert six of their 13 tries.

Nine Blue Devils scored on the night, with Catherine Cordrey posting three goals, while Olivia Jenner and Veronica Hineman collected two goals and an assist each. Catriona Barry also gathered three assists with a score. Maddie Jenner also won 12 draw controls, helping Duke take 18-of-25 draws on the night.

Charlotte Tucci grabbed three ground balls with three caused turnovers for Duke on the defensive end, while Lindsey Reynolds added three ground balls and two caused miscues.

Gabbe Cadoux led four Duke goalies with four saves, tacking on a ground ball in the win.

For the Camels, Melissa Placek notched two goals for her seventh multi-goal game of the season, adding three draw controls. Ellie Allen and Laura Will also posted goals, while Maggie Dolan tallied an assist. Sam Carey and Amanda Chasin added two ground balls and caused a turnover in the loss.

In goal, Lexie Patton made a Campbell season-high 17 saves, while CU goalies faced 45 Duke shots. Patton also caused two turnovers and picked up a ground ball.

Duke was also a perfect 13-for-13 on clears in the win, while Campbell converted 10-of-16, including 6-of-7 in the second half.

Campbell will begin Big South play on Saturday, hosting Presbyterian at noon in Buies Creek. The Camels close out their four game home stand on April 3, hosting Winthrop at Barker-Lane Stadium.
