HIGH POINT, N.C. – Abby Hormes and Rachel Foster each scored five goals to push 25
th ranked High Point over Campbell 16-9 in the semifinal round of the Big South Championship Friday at Vert Stadium.
The Panthers improved to 14-4 on the season with their 10
th consecutive win, while Campbell's season comes to an end at 6-11 overall.
Hormes added an assist with two ground balls, two caused turnovers and two draw controls, while Foster connected on both of her free position shots, tacking on a ground ball in the win.
Allie Little tallied a game-high seven points on four assists and three goals, while Nicole Pugh notched a pair of goals. Meredith Chapman caused seven of Campbell's 28 turnovers with six ground balls, and Samantha Herman scored a goal, adding four caused turnovers and three ground balls.
Seniors
Melissa Placek and
Ellie Allen both posted two goals apiece for the Camels, with Placek collecting six draw controls and two ground balls.
Sam Carey grabbed a game-high seven draw controls, helping Campbell double up the Panthers 18-9 on the draw, also recording a goal.
Sarah Paul also registered two points on a goal and an assist, while
Annie Pazulski,
Mackenzie Kolesar and
Laura Will all added goals.
Morgan Hollenbeck also tallied an assist for the Camels.
Amanda Chasin paced the Campbell defense with a school record nine ground balls, adding four caused turnovers.
Lexie Patton made five saves in goal, also picking up two ground balls.
HPU jumped out to a 6-0 lead by the 22:24 mark of the first before Will and Kolesar put Campbell on the board. The Panthers led by as much as eight (10-2) in the opening half before taking an 11-4 advantage into the halftime break.
Allen's first score of the day cut the High Point lead to 11-5 before five straight Panther goals made it a 16-5 game. Campbell, however, closed the matchup with four consecutive goals, with Paul's score with 3:26 capping the run.
The Camels and Panthers were meeting for the fourth straight year in the Big South Tournament.
HPU moves on to take on the winner of Longwood and Winthrop in the Big South Championship final on Sunday at 2 p.m.
