BUIES CREEK - Campbell swimming dropped its home opener to Liberty, 142.5-118.5 on Saturday afternoon at the Johnson Aquatic Center.
Campbell moves to 0-1-1 on the season after tying UNC Asheville last week while Liberty moves to 2-0 on the year.
The Camels won five individual events and one relay: Avery Rogers won the 1000 free (10:58.17), Annie Sanchez won the 200 free (1:54.60), Colleen Renshaw won both the 50 free (24.30) and the 100 free (53.23), María Kristjánsdóttir won the 200 breaststroke (2:24.75) and CU took home the 400 free relay win.
The team of Neringa Cerniauskaite and Meredith Ashburn along with Sanchez and Renshaw stormed to the 400 free relay win with a time of 3:32.29.
Kristjánsdóttir finished second in the 400 IM (4:42.62) with Skyler DeWall following in third (4:45.41). Julia Sherlock took second overall in the 100 back (58.23) and third in the 200 back (2:08.11). Sanchez reached podium status for a third time, tying for 2nd in the 100 free (53.27).
Simone Palomo placed second in the 100 fly (57.99), Erica Losey placed second in the 500 free (5:22.63) and Meredith Ashburn finished second in the 50 free (24.91). Lauren Shoemaker took third in the 200 fly (2:10.92), Piper Burton placed third in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.77) and Maialen Sudupe placed third in the 100 back (59.39).
The Flames won seven individual events and one relay on the day. Senior Lindsey Cohee won both 100 and 200 fly events while Peyton Keiner won the 100 back, 200 back and propelled Liberty to a win in the 200 medley relay and second place finish in the 400 free relay.
Campbell returns to action next Saturday as they host Georgia Southern in dual-meet action at the Johnson Aquatic Center.
