BUIES CREEK - Campbell swimming picked up its first win of the 2020-21 season with a 159-103 victory of Georgia Southern on Saturday afternoon at the Johnson Aquatic Center.
Campbell moves to a 1-1-1 record on the season and against CCSA foes while Georgia Southern falls to 0-1.
The Fighting Camels opened the meet by winning the 400-medley relay as the team of Julia Sherlock, Piper Burton, Simone Palomo and Annie Sanchez swam a time of 3:55.05.Â
Sanchez picked up a win in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:56.27 followed by another win in the 100 freestyle with a time of 53.02. Campbell went 1-2-3 in both of those events as Renshaw placed second in both (200, 1:57.31; 100, 53.60)Â and Neringa Cerniauskaite took third in both events (200, 1:58.23; 100, 53.82). Renshaw also earned a first-place finish in the 50 free with a time of 24.39.
Sherlock earned an individual win in the 100 backstroke with a time of 58.88 while Lauren Shoemaker took first in the 200 fly with a time of 2:08.91.
María Kristjánsdóttir continued her impressive freshmen year campaign, claiming first in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:28.00 while Palomo earned an individual win in the 100 fly with a time of 58.01.Â
In distance events, Avery Rogers placed second in the 1000 free (10:58.69) and third in the 500 free (5:22.38).Â
Campbell closed out the meet by taking first in the 200 free relay as the A-squad of Sanchez, Cerniauskaite, Ashburn and Renshaw collectively swam to victory with a time of 1:38.27.
The Camels will take the next few weeks off before returning to competition at the TYR '85 Invite hosted by Liberty in Lynchburg, Va.Â
