LYNCHBURG, Va. - Campbell swimming leads the competition at the TYR '85 Invitational behind two relay victories on day one.
Campbell's 772 total points ranks ahead of UNC Asheville's 752 and Liberty's 619 after the opening day of competition.
The Fighting Camels opened up the finals portion of the meet with a win in the 4x100 free relay behind the combined effort of Annie Sanchez, Neringa Cerniauskaite, Meredith Ashburn and Colleen Renshaw with a time of 1:34.26.
Erica Losey followed in the 500 free, earning a third-place finish in 5:07.63 followed by Maialen Sudupe finishing second-overall in the 200 IM with a time of 2:07.34. Renshaw took the last individual event medal of the evening in the 50 free, finishing second with a time of 23.50.
To wrap up the evening CU had two relay teams earn spots on the podium in the 4x100 medley relay. The Campbell 'A' team of Julia Sherlock, Piper Burton, Simone Palomo, and Renshaw took first in the event with a time of 3:47.66 followed by a third-place finish by the 'B' team comprised of Sudupe, Isabella Gaskey, Lauren Shoemaker and Sanchez in a time of 3:50.56.
Campbell returns to the TYR '85 Invitational tomorrow for prelims at 10 a.m. and final events scheduled for 6 p.m.
