BUIES CREEK, N.C. -- Essence Martins clinched the match at No. 6 to lift Campbell to a 4-3 win over Coastal Carolina. The win marked the third-straight for the Camels.
It came down to the final court at No. 6 where
Essence Martins sealed the match with a 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 comeback victory.Â
Campbell (5-1) opened by clinching the doubles point thanks to a pair of wins from
Ciara O'Toole and Lou Regan who won 6-2 and pair
Lucile Pons and
Alexandra Nicoara, 6-3.Â
The win for O'Toole and Regen marked the third straight win for the duo who has won in doubles action every match over the Camels' three-game win streak.
Nicoara continued her momentum in singles play by opening with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 5 to make the match 2-0 in favor of Campbell. The win marked her third-straight and served as her second win of the season at No. 5 where she is 2-0.
Coastal (0-2) responded with a pair of wins starting at No. 3 where Scara Fleminia tabbed a 6-1, 1-6, 6-1 three set decision before Iryna Vardanian claimed a 6-2, 0-5, 6-4 win to even the match 2-2.
Ana Castillo followed by winning her third-straight singles decision with a 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 comeback victory at No. 1 where she holds a 5-1 mark on the season.
Valentina Urelli then won at No. 4 6-2, 7-6, 7-5 to push the match's decision to the final court where Martins clinched it for the Camels.
Campbell returns to action on Friday at against East Carolina with first serve set for 2:00 p.m.
