BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Team Black won five straight matchups, overtaking Team Orange 19-12 on Saturday in the annual Campbell Wrestling Orange & Black Wrestle-Off in front of the Pope Convocation Center.
As part of CU's 2021 Homecoming festivities, four of Campbell's five nationally ranked individuals, a combined six NCAA Championships appearances, eight SoCon finals showings, including 2021-22 Preseason All-SoCon picks and returning NCAA qualifiers
Austin Murphy at 174 pounds,
Caleb Hopkins at 184 and
Chris Kober at 197.
Saturday's finals pairings at each weight class were determined through
preliminary rounds earlier in the week.
Newcomer
Anthony Molton, transferring to CU from Fresno State, opened the morning with a decision at 125 pounds for Orange over 32nd-ranked and two two-time NCAA qualifier
Korbin Meink, and
Domenic Zaccone followed with a win over last season's 133 pound starter
Gabriel Hixenbaugh, making it a 6-0 Orange lead before
Shannon Hanna's decision at 141.
Team Orange took a 9-3 lead after
Justin Rivera's decision over
Brennan Watkins at 149 pounds before
Matthew Dallara, a SoCon finalist in 2020, started the run for Black at 157 with a decision over
Bilal Bailey.
Troy Nation added a decision at 165 pounds to tie up the team score before No. 13
Austin Murphy tallied a major decision at 174, the day's only bonus points, and No. 17
Caleb Hopkins followed with a win for Black.
Levi Hopkins sealed the win for Black at 197, edging another former two-time NCAA qualifier, No. 24
Chris Kober.
Chad Nix also topped
Luke Davis for Orange to close out the match.

Campbell claimed its third straight SoCon regular season and tournament championships in 2021, going 8-1 overall and a perfect 7-0 in conference duals. The Camels extended their SoCon dual win streak to 16 in the process, going unbeaten through its league slate for the second straight season.
Ranked as high as No. 22 in the NCWA team poll and No. 19 by InterMat, a school record seven Camels qualified for the 2021 NCAA Championships in St. Louis, Mo., while first year head coach
Scotti Sentes was named national Rookie Head Coach of the Year (Amateur Wrestling News), as well as SoCon Coach of the Year.
Campbell will officially open the 2021-22 season at home, hosting Montreat on November 3.
