BUIES CREEK, N.C. – After posting an 8-3 record in fall tournament action, Campbell's
Tomas Balazi and
Leon Petko have been ranked No. 27 nationally in the final fall doubles rating by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
The tandem opened the fall with a 2-0 record at the UNCG Invitational, then went 2-1 in the next three tournaments, including the ITA Carolina Regional and the Wake Forest Invitational.
At the Carolina Regional, Balazi and Petko defeated Duke's Michael Heller and Andrew Zhang, who are ranked No. 39, to reach the round of 16.
In the fall season ending Wake Forest event, the Camel duo knocked off a pair of teams from Duke – Heller and Andrew Dale, as well as Edu Guell and Arturo Kam.
A native of Trencin, Slovakia, Balazi joined the program this year as a transfer from VCU. After playing two seasons at South Alabama, Petko, who hails from Bratislava, Slovakia, also joined the Camels this fall.
Campbell opens its spring schedule Jan. 20 at NC State.
