BUIES CREEK - Despite another strong offensive outing the Campbell women's soccer team took a 0-0 draw against Longwood on Wednesday night at Eakes Athletics Complex.

The Camels move to 2-3-1 (2-2-1 Big South) following the draw, while the Lancers move to 1-0-3 (1-0-3 BSC) on the year.

"I'm proud of our team, our effort was fantastic and we continue to get better week by week," head coach Samar Azem said following the match. "Longwood is undoubtedly the best defensive team in the league and I thought we did a fantastic job to create a number of very strong attacking opportunities and come out on the front foot." 

Campbell peppered a tough Longwood defense with 15 shots putting seven on goal while Longwood had three shots (two on goal). The Camels also had 14 corner kicks to the Lancers' four.

Campbell managed to find several scoring opportunities throughout the match but couldn't net an eventual game-winner.

In the waning minutes of the first half a corner from Cazzi Norgren found Jessica Donald whose header was saved by the Longwood defense.

Sophomore Laney Peabody went on the offense following halftime putting three shots on frame in the first 10 minutes of the period.

Campbell had another scoring opportunity in the 67th minute as Olivia Neal's through ball across the inline was kicked away to a wide-open Amber Liston outside the box. Liston put a grounder to the lower left corner of the net resulting in a diving save by Longwood's Madison Van Dyke.

Longwood's best chance of the night came in the 77th minute as a shot by Kiersten Yuhas was saved by freshman Stephanie Martelli who notched her second shutout in as many starts this season.

Liston and Norgren as well as Emma Bushee each recorded a shot in overtime as the Camels were unable to net a golden goal.

"To get the shutout tonight is excellent, to be shutout is something we will continue to get better at," Azem continued. "I am more and more excited about this team and what our players are doing."

The Camels return to action Sunday when it hosts Presbyterian to wrap up a three-game home stand. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m. at Eakes Athletics Complex with the match set to be broadcast on ESPN+.
