Camels win fourth straight, top Longwood 19-8

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell won its fourth straight game, closing out the regular season with a 19-8 win over Longwood Saturday at Barker-Lane Stadium.

Campbell heads into the Big South tournament at 8-6 overall and 5-1 in conference play, while Longwood concludes its season at 2-13 overall and 1-5 in league games. The Camels' five Big South wins are the most in a single season since CU went 6-1 in 2017.

Up 7-5 at the half, Campbell outscored Longwood 12-3 in the second half, punching in the first three goals of the frame and finishing the stanza on a 9-1 run.

CU outshot the Lancers 24-8 and picked up 16-of-21 ground balls in the second half, while owning a 21-7 advantage on the draw for the game.

Julianna Sanchez, Sam Bischoff and Olivia Ohlmann all notched hat tricks in the win, while Sanchez added 10 draw controls. Lizzie Yurchak also collected three points on two goals and an assist, tacking on five draw controls, two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Megan Matthews scored a goal with two helpers, while Ally Heath, Maggie Dolan and Kyla Azzato registered two points apiece.

Senior defender Kennedy Boyle, who scored her first career goal in the win, added four ground balls and four caused turnovers for the Camels, while Mackenzie Kolesar caused three Lancer miscues with three ground balls and a goal.

Alex Salim gathered seven first half saves in goal, while Emma Strickland added two stops in the second frame.

Emma Johnson paced Longwood with four goals, while Dana Joss collected four assists with four ground balls and two caused turnovers in the loss.

CU honored its three graduating seniors prior to Saturday's game, including Boyle, Salim and Jenny Anuszewski.

The Camels, who secured the No. 2 seed in next week's Big South Championship prior to Saturday's game, will host Radford, the No. 3 seed, on April 30 at 1:00 p.m. in a tournament semifinal. The winner will clinch a spot in the Big South title game, set for Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the highest remaining seed.

Top seeded High Point will also host No. 4 seed Winthrop on Friday.
