Men's Golf adds three for 2021-22

Trio of Scandinavian standouts join program

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Head coach John Crooks has announced his 2021 Campbell University men's golf recruiting class.  Henric Bjelke (Oslo, Norway), Petter Hagberg (Gavle, Sweden) and Rasmus Jonasson (Gothenburg, Sweden) and will join the two-time defending Big South Conference champions next month.

Bjelke, Hagberg and Jonasson join a program that has made five-consecutive NCAA post-season appearances.  A member of the National Golf Coaches Association Hall of Fame, Crooks has guided his team to three Big South titles in the last five seasons.

"Recruiting is never an exact science, but this year we were able to add three great players," said Crooks, who is entering his 32nd year in charge of the program.  " Rasmus Jonasson has represented Sweden in international competition after winning one of the biggest tournaments in Europe.  Petter has been a strong player with a great work ethic from the same club as Pontus Nyholm in Uppsala.  And Henric just won a major junior tournament in Oslo Norway.  These three young men will be great ambassadors for Campbell University.  It is such an honor to help these these student-athletes contribute to Campbell University's golf team tradition of excellence.  Go Camels!"

Bjelke, Hagberg and Jonasson follow a Scandinavian pipeline to Buies Creek that includes 2021 Big South golfer of the year, All-American and Arnold Palmer Cup participant Pontus Nyholm, who turned pro this month after graduating in May.  Jesper Svensson, the 2017 and 2019 Big South golfer of the year, led the Camels to four-straight NCAA regional appearances, while Fredric Sundberg earned an individual berth to the 2007 NCAA regionals.

The 2021-22 Campbell roster will include five Scandinavian players.  Henrik Lilja (Gothenburg, Sweden) and Edwin Blomander (Eksjo, Sweden) both earned Big South all-conference honors this spring.
