BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell picked up seven bonus point victories, defeating visiting Bellarmine 47-3 in its Southern Conference opener Sunday at the Pope Convocation Center / Gore Arena.
Campbell (4-2, 1-0 SoCon) won its 17
th consecutive SoCon dual, a streak that dates back to the 2018-19 season, dealing Bellarmine (1-10, 0-2 SoCon) its 10
th straight loss this season.
Domenic Zaccone at 133 pounds,
Troy Nation at 165 and
Levi Hopkins at 197 all earned first period falls on the afternoon, while Bellarmine forfeited at 141, 149 and 174.
Campbell led 36-0 before Sam Schoeder earned the Knights' only individual win of the day with a 6-5 decision at 184.
Hopkins' pin, followed by a 19-4 (5:00) tech fall for No. 25
Taye Ghadiali over Charlie Cadell at heavyweight closed out the win for CU.
The Camels and Knights were originally scheduled to meet in Clinton, S.C., along with Presbyterian in a tri-meet on Sunday, but the match was rescheduled due to COVID-19 protocols within the PC program.
Next up, the Camels will head to the Chippewa Challenge, hosted by Central Michigan on January 16. CU will take on American and CSU Bakersfield in addition to the host Chippewas. The Camels return home on January 23, hosting The Citadel.
