Camels head to Advance Golf Partners Collegiate

Facing 18 other teams at Hammock Creek GC in Palm City, Fla.

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell continues its spring season Sunday with the Advance Golf Partners Collegiate.  The 54-hole event continues through Tuesday on the par-72 Hammock Creek Golf Club, a Nicklaus signature design, in Palm City, Fla.
 
Campbell opened the spring campaign with an eighth-place showing at the Sea Best Invitational.  In a field that included six teams ranked among the nation's top 50, Campbell finished one shot behind No. 9 Texas A&M.
 
Head coach John Crooks and assistant coach Ashley will field the same lineup that competed at the Sea Best Invitational including two seniors – Henrik Lilja and Edwin Blomander – junior Claude Churchward, red-shirt sophomore Romain Lanteri and freshman Henric Bjelke.
 
UNCG (74) and Campbell (87) are the top-ranked teams in the 19-team Advance Golf Partners Collegiate field, which also includes Big South Conference members USC Upstate and Winthrop.

The Course: Hammock Creek Golf Club, located in Palm City, Florida, opened in July of 1996, and features five sets of tees on every hole. Designed by the father-son team of Jack Nicklaus and Jack Nicklaus II, Hammock Creek features natural water hazards, dense forests and challenging doglegs. With five sets of tees on each hole, Hammock Creek stretches to 7,131 yards.
 
The Coach: John Crooks is in his 32nd year in charge of the Campbell men's golf program and 31st as head coach of the CU women.  Crooks has been named league coach of the year 22 times in his tenure.  His teams have combined to earn 33 NCAA post-season trips, including five-straight on the men's side and nine in a row for the women.  His teams have won 153 tournaments and with 92 career tournament titles, Crooks trails only Dan Brooks of Duke on the all-time coaching victories list among Division I women's coaches.  He has guided his teams to 25 league titles, including 17 on the women's side and eight in men's competition.
 
The Lineup:
 
Senior Edwin Blomander (Eksjo, Sweden) ranks eighth among Big South golfers with a 72.0 scoring average.  He has played par, or better, golf five times in 12 rounds this season.  He produced a T10 finish (76-72-68—216) last fall at the Daniel Island Intercollegiate and opened the spring with his best showing in two seasons at Campbell, a T8 at the Sea Best (72-69-71—212).  Blomander shot a collegiate low 7-under 65 in the final round of the Golfweek Fall Challenge.
 
Senior Henrik Lilja (Gothenburg, Sweden) leads all Big South golfers in stroke average (70.8) and top-10 finishes (4) this season.  He tied a career best with a T6 (74-64-69-207) last fall at the Golfweek Fall Challenge and was T4 at the Georgetown event (71-68-70—209).  He has played par, or better, golf in 10 of 15 rounds.  Lilja is ranked No. 87 nationally in the Golfstat Cup.
 
Freshman Henric Bjelke (Oslo, Norway) was selected as the Big South freshman of the week four times during the fall campaign and enters the Advance Golf Partners Collegiate with a 71.93 stroke average, seventh among league golfers, and four top 25 finishes.  He played par or better golf in seven of 15 rounds, including a 4-under 68 in the opening round of the Daniel Island Intercollegiate.  His best finish (T15) came at the Georgetown Intercollegiate.
 
Junior Claude Churchward (Calignac, France) opened the season with a T35 finish (73-73-70—216) in the Golfweek Fall Challenge at True Blue.  His stroke average stands at 73.5 over 12 rounds and ranks 20th among Big South golfers.  He shot a collegiate low 69 in the second round of the Sea Best Invitational on the par-70 Dye's Valley course at TPC Sawgrass.
 
Red-shirt sophomore Romain Lanteri (Reunion Island, France) owns a 74.3 stroke average over six rounds in the 2021-22 season.  He was named to the 2021 Big South all-freshman team after posting his best collegiate finish (T18) in the 2021 Big South stroke play championship (74-66-76—216), where he shot a collegiate low in the second round.
