BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell pitchers limited Akron and Iona to just one run Friday in the opening day of the Campbell Invitational at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.
 
Georgeanna Barefoot (5-2) shut out Akron 8-0, before Isabella Smith (3-4) surrendered just one run in a 9-1 win over Iona in the nightcap.
 
Campbell 8, Akron 0 (5 innings)
Alyssa Henault went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two stolen bases, Noemi Cortez homered, and the Camels capitalized on four Akron errors to back up Georgeanna Barefoot's fourth shutout of the season.  Claudia Ware singled, stole two bases, and scored twice for CU, which took a 3-0 lead in the second.  Barefoot (5-2) scattered five hits while striking out three.
 
Campbell 9, Iona 1 (5 innings)
The Camels (8-6) rapped 10 hits to back up Smith's 7-strikeout performance.  Ware and Alexa Pagano both went 2-for-3 with a double and RIB, while Samantha Fontaine hit her first collegiate home run.  The Camels walked off in the bottom of the fifth when Tyra Parker doubled with one out and scored on Ware's single.
