BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell claimed its first outright Big South Conference men's tennis title Saturday with a 4-3 win over Presbyterian at the Nisbet Tennis Center.
 
The Camels (15-4, 7-0) won their 12th match in a row by securing the doubles point, then splitting the singles results.
 
Damien Nezar and Benjamin Maes earned a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles before Ted Williams and Gustavs Lukstins wrapped up the point with a tiebreaker victory at No. 3.  Nezar and Maes improved to 12-2 in doubles play, 3-1 in Big South competition, while Williams and Lukstins moved to 5-3 on the spring, 4-0 vs. league opponents.
 
Nezar posted Campbell's second dual match point with a 7-6, 7-5 victory at the top singles position.  After PC won at the fifth, sixth and second spots, Pol Otin outlasted 2021 Big South player of the year Max Benson 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 at number four singles to knot the score at 3-3.
 
Maes then rallied from a set down to clinch the match at No. 4 singles, 7-5 in the third, over Javier Matos.
 
Top-seeded Campbell will face either fourth seed Presbyterian or fifth seeded UNC Asheville on Saturday, Apr. 23 in the Big South Championship at Marion Diehl Park in Charlotte.
 
The Camels close their regular season Sunday with a 4:30 p.m. first serve at No. 7 Wake Forest.
