Camels claim share of Big South regular season title

Barefoot tosses first career no-hitter to lead Camels

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Georgeanna Barefoot threw a no-hitter and Campbell claimed a share of the Big South regular season title for the second-straight season and first time in program history with a 2-0 win over Gardner-Webb Monday afternoon at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.

Campbell (34-16, 21-6) earned a share of the regular season title after posting the same conference record as USC Upstate and Longwood. The Camels will be the No. 2 seed for the Big South Championship hosted by Longwood in Farmville, Va. later this week.

Barefoot (15-5) picked up her 15th win after tossing her first collegiate no-hitter against the Runnin' Bulldogs. The Raleigh, N.C. native struck out five batters and was one Campbell error away from a perfect game after retiring all but one batter.

Campbell put one run on the board in the second inning as Alexa Pagano singled to left center and moved to third following back-to-back walks. Savannah White sent Pagano home on her sacrifice fly to center field.

The Camels added an insurance run in the fifth inning as Claudia Ware singled to left field and then scored from first following a dropped fly ball by Gardner-Webb's centerfielder on Delaney McDilda's at bat.

Ware finished 2-of-3 with a run while Pagano went 1-for-1 with one run and two walks.

Andrea Lyon (8-17) took the loss for the Runnin' Bulldogs, throwing a complete game with three hits, one earned run and no strikeouts.
