Camels take sole possession of lead at Caledonia

CU sets school 36-hole record in Golfweek Fall Challenge

PAWLEY'S ISLAND, S.C. – With all five golfers among the top 16 individuals, Campbell moved into sole possession of the lead after Monday's second round of the Golfweek Fall Challenge at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club in Pawley's Island, S.C.

Setting a school 36-hole team record in the process, the Camels were seven-under on the day and stand 12-under (279-277—556) entering Tuesday's final round on the par-71 Mike Strantz design.  Austin Peay (279-284—563) and Lipscomb (279-284—563) are tied for second at five-under, 10-strokes clear of fourth-place New Mexico State.

All five Camels are even-par, or better, through two rounds led by red-shirt freshman Izabella Grimbrandt (70-69—139) and freshman Isabella Hahne (70-69—139), who are tied for seventh at 3-under.  Fifth-year senior Tomita Arejola is tied for 11th (70-70—140), freshman Taylah Ellems is tied for 14th (69-72—141) and junior Sanna Lundmark (73-69—142) is tied for 16th in the 104-player field.

One day after shooting the sixth-lowest team round in Campbell women's golf history, the Camels matched the third-lowest score on Monday.  The team broke the previous 36-hole school record – set on the same Caledonia layout four years ago – by four shots.

Campbell will be paired with Austin Peay, Lipscomb and New Mexico State for Tuesday's final round and start from the first tee at 9:30 a.m. Live scoring is available at Golfstat.com.

On Monday, Grimbrandt produced a bogey-free scorecard with one birdie on each side.  She leads the field with 31 pars through 36 holes and has made only one bogey this week.

Hahne's day included five birdies.  She recovered from a double-bogey on the eighth hole to play the final 10 holes 2-under.  Arejola made six birdies Monday and stands fourth in the field with 11 through two rounds.  Lundmark was two-over through five holes but was 4-under over the last 10.

Being atop the leader board at Caledonia is familiar territory for the Camels, who have made 10-straight NCAA Regional appearances.  Campbell has won five team titles (2012, 2013, 2015, 2018, 2021) and finished as runner-up twice at Caledonia.  Arejola and Lundmark helped CU win last year's team title.

Erica Scutt of Austin Peay (64-66—130) takes a five-stroke lead over Praew Nontarux of USC Upstate (64-71—135) on the individual leader board into the final round.

As a team, the Camels lead the field in par-3 (-7) and par-4 (+6) scoring and are tied for the lead with 39 birdies.  CU is third on the par-5 holes (-6) and in pars (116).

The Course – Caledonia Golf & Fish Club (Par 71, 6526 yards): Caledonia was ranked No.-27 in in Golf Magazine's 2014 "Top 100 You Can Play" and is annually ranked on "America's 100 Greatest Public courses" list by Golf Digest.  The 6,526-yard Mike Strantz design has been described as having "18 signature holes," with holes routed around majestic oaks and meandering streams. The picturesque 18th hole borders the Plantation's old rice field, and requires a precise tee shot that sets up a difficult second shot: a forced carry onto a green at the foot of the clubhouse.
