Boiling Springs, N.C. – Campbell began Big South play with a 3-0 win at Gardner-Webb Friday night inside Paul Porter Arena. The Fighting Camels hit .323 on the night, marking the third time in four matches Campbell has eclipsed the .300 mark.
The win takes Campbell to 5-8, 1-0 on the year, while GWU falls to 2-11, 0-2 in the league.
Melody Paige was a juggernaut on offense for the Camels, notching a career-high 18 kills on .630 hitting. The new career-high in kills surpasses her previous mark of 17 that was set in a five-set match last season against Davidson. Lailah Green.
The Camels held on for a close 25-23 win in the final set to complete the sweep. Campbell's largest lead in the set didn't come until 22-18, but GWU answered by cutting the set to one trying to hold off elimination. It wasn't enough as a Bulldog service error closed things out for the win.
In addition to Paige's offense, Green added eight kills while three more Camels (Cook, Patterson, Wolkow) added seven each.
Emily Mitter tallied a match-high 27 assists while Fechter posted 12 digs to pace the Camels. Paige kept up her stellar defense as well pitching in four blocks.
