BUIES CREEK, N.C. –
Sam Bischoff posted a career-high 10 points, leading Campbell to an 18-7 season opening win over visiting Stetson on Saturday at Barker-Lane Stadium.
Campbell (1-0) opened the season with a win for the second straight year, defeating Stetson (0-1) for the fourth time in as many games in the series.
Up 6-3 at the break, led by four first half scores from Bischoff, the Camels outscored the Hatters 12-4 in the second half, including a 6-0 fourth quarter to pull away.
Bischoff ended the day with eight goals and two assists, one goal and one point away from CU single-game records (Loren Day, nine goals 4/2/16; Kayla Reilly, 11 points 4/28/18). The junior added eight draw controls, four ground balls and a caused turnover in the win, scoring her career high on just 15 shots.
Kyla Azzato added four points on three goals and an assist, with
Rasa Welsh registering three assists and
Joslin Hanbury collecting a goal and two helpers with three ground balls.
Ally Heath and
Olivia Ohlmann also scored twice for the Camels.
Shae Fitzgerald anchored the CU defense with three caused turnovers and four ground balls, adding six draw controls, while
Delaney Nicolaus picked up three ground balls with a goal and a caused turnover.
Emma Strickland, one of three goalies to see time in the win, tacked on six first half saves with two ground balls and a caused turnover.
Kaitlin Pani led the Hatters with three points on two goals and an assist with two caused turnovers and a ground ball. Samantha Paglino also scored twice, while Sara Freeman caused a pair of turnovers with three ground balls. Sydney Heimann also made 12 saves on 42 Campbell shots, adding two ground balls.
Next up, Campbell heads on the road for three straight, starting with East Carolina on February 22, returning home on March 4, hosting Old Dominion.
