BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Allyiah Swiney's walk-off grand slam highlighted the day as Campbell earned two wins over USC Upstate Saturday at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.
Campbell improves to 22-9, 4-1 while the Big South preseason favorites USC Upstate falls to 25-5, 3-2.
Campbell 2, USC Upstate 1 (Game One)
The Camels started the day with a 2-1 win over USC Upstate.
Swiney connected on a RBI single to right field to open the scoring in the second inning while Savannah White added another RBI later in the fourth.
The Spartans got one back as Tiffany Domingue's double scored one run in the fifth. Upstate threatened again in the sixth inning, loading the bases with one out before Isabella Smith forced a foul out and struck out the next batter to end the inning.
Alyssa Kelly (15-3) took her third loss on the season after allowing eight hits, two earned runs and only striking out one.
Smith (14-6) continued to impress, striking out four and allowing just one earned run in a complete game effort against an Upstate team that hits .326 and scores over five runs a game.
Mariana Rodriguez and Madilyn Gillespie both collected two hits. Claudia Ware, who made an excellent diving catch in centerfield, recorded a double and scored a run.
Campbell 10, USC Upstate 2 (Game Two)
Campbell took the series over USC Upstate after Swiney's walk-off run-rule grand slam in the fifth inning put the Camels ahead 10-2.
Upstate took its first lead of the series in the third inning on a sacrifice fly from Denver Lauer in the third inning.
The Camels immediately responded in the bottom half of the inning, putting five runs on the board thanks to a two RBI triple from Tyra Parker, a RBI single from Gillespie and another two RBI hit from Rodriguez.
Lauer drove in another run in the fifth inning for the Spartans before Campbell ended things early later on in the inning.
Campbell loaded the bases in the fifth starting with an Alyssa Henault hit, followed by Makayla McClain reaching on an error and Madilyn Gillespie getting hit by a pitch. Ware drove in one run with a sacrifice fly to left field as Rodriguez was issued a walk to load the bases again.
Swiney took seven pitches and had a full count before connecting for a grand slam hit over the left field wall.
Upstate's Maddie Drerup (9-2) took her second loss of the season after allowing eight hits, 10 runs and one walk.
Kayla Howald (7-3) picked up the win in the circle for the Camels, allowing four hits, two earned runs and striking out two.
Campbell returns to Amanda Littlejohn Stadium tomorrow for the final game of the series against USC Upstate at 1:00 p.m.
