GREENVILLE, S.C. –
Olivia Ohlmann registered a second half hat trick, while Campbell allowed just two second half scores, outlasting Furman 9-8 on Saturday in Big South Conference action at Paladin Stadium.
Campbell moved to 6-4 on the season and 2-0 in Big South matchups, while Furman dipped to 4-5 overall and 1-1 in league games, suffering its first conference defeat. The contest was the sixth one goal margin in the seven game series history between the Camels and Paladins.
The Camels trailed 7-4 with 12:34 on the clock in the third period before four straight CU scores, with two goals apiece from Ohlmann and
Ally Heath, and three assisted by
Rasa Welsh, put Campbell back in front 8-7 with 1:04 to play in the third.
With 3:48 remaining in regulation, Furman's Hannah Dintino tied it up before Campbell took the lead for good on the next possession on Ohlmann's third goal (2:59), again assisted by Welsh. Furman did not record a shot over the remainder of the game, with both possessions ending in turnovers, the final forced by
Rebekah Taylor with 1:27 on the clock.
Campbell's defense not only allowed just two second half goals, but limited the Paladins to only two draw controls over the final two quarters while converting seven, and yielded nine second half shots after withstanding 19 in the opening two periods.
In addition to Ohlmann and Welsh combining for seven points on three goals and four assists, respectively, Heath posted three points on two goals and an assist, while
Joslin Hanbury scored twice with three ground balls.
Sam Bischoff and
Shania Roehrich also scored goals for the Camels, while
Shae Fitzgerald tallied six draw controls with four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Chandler Stewart added three ground balls and caused two turnovers, with
Emma Strickland registering seven saves to go with two ground balls and a caused turnover in goal.
Anna Roser led Furman with four goals, while Paige Harman picked up three points on two goals and an assist to go with three ground balls and a caused turnover.
