Camels cruise to program record 11th win, top Winthrop 16-7

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Joslin Hanbury and Rasa Welsh tallied five points apiece, leading Campbell over Winthrop 16-7 on Saturday at Eagle Field and securing the Camels' school season record 11th win.

Campbell, which also tied a school record with its seventh consecutive win on Saturday, improved to 11-4 on the season and 7-0 in Big South play, while Winthrop dropped to 3-11 overall and 0-7 in conference matchups.

Hanbury scored four of her game-high five goals and Welsh posted two goals and two assists in the first half, guiding the Camels to an 11-3 lead at the break. Hanbury added another goal in the second half to go along with a caused turnover and a ground ball, while Welsh ended the day with three goals and two assists, adding a pair of draw controls.

Olivia Ohlmann also notched a hat trick with three goals and a ground ball, while Ally Heath posted a goal and an assist with two caused turnovers and a ground ball. Chandler Stewart, Rebekah Taylor and Shae Fitzgerald all picked up two ground balls with a caused turnover. Emma Strickland also made five saves in the win.

Campbell out-shot the Eagles 41-21 on the day, while holding Winthrop to 1-of-6 on free position attempts.

Scarlet Cifarelli led Winthrop with two goals and an assist, while Molly Dankowski collected two scores with five draw controls. Grayson McKenzie also added a goal and an assist, while Tori Iannotti registered five draw controls and two ground balls.

Next up, Campbell returns home for the final two games of the 2023 regular season, hosting High Point on Wednesday, April 26, and fellow Big South unbeaten Mercer on Saturday, April 29.

The 2023 Big South Championship is set for May 5-7, to be played at the tournament's to be determined No. 1 seed.
