BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Claudia Ware's walk-off hit highlighted Campbell's series sweep over Radford Sunday at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium. The Camels won the first game of the doubleheader 3-1 and picked up a 4-3 win on Ware's hit in the seventh in the second game.
Campbell improves to 33-13 and 14-3 in Big South games after claiming its third conference sweep of the season. Radford meanwhile drops to 13-29 and 3-12.
Campbell honored seniors Katelyn Chisholm, Noemi Cortez, Samantha Fontaine, Lindsey Hunt and Claudia Ware before the doubleheader. The senior class has combined for over 130 wins, two NCAA Regional appearances and back-to-back Big South regular season and tournament titles.
Game One: Campbell 3, Radford 1
Campbell picked up a 3-1 win over Radford in the first game of the doubleheader, securing its fifth Big South series of the season.
The Highlanders scored its only run of the game in the first inning off a bases loaded error.
The Camels answered in the second inning as Delaney McDilda avoided getting tagged at the plate as Allyiah Swiney reached on a fielder's choice. Tyra Parker gave Campbell the lead as she knocked an RBI double to left field.
Madilyn Gillespie's sacrifice fly scored another run in the third inning.
Kayla Howald (10-4) picked up her 10th win of the season after allowing no earned runs and striking out five batters in a complete game effort.
Malorie Reeves (2-11) took the loss for the Highlanders, giving up one earned run off five hits.
Makayla McClain went 2-for-3 while Alyssa Henault finished 1-for-2 with one walk and run.
Game Two: Campbell 4, Radford 3
A walk-off hit by Ware in the bottom of the seventh gave Campbell a 4-3 win and the series sweep.
Radford scored two runs in the second inning off a Rachel Smith single through the left side and a Qween Edmonds triple to right center. The Highlanders tacked on another run in the fifth on a Cori McMillan RBI single to right field.
The Camels got on the board in the bottom of the fifth on a Savannah White RBI double.
Campbell then tied the game in the sixth as Makayla McClain drove in two runs with a hit to right center.
In the seventh, Parker reached on a bunt and stole her 22nd base of the season. Ware sent her home for the win as she connected on a hit down the left field line.
It was another stellar day in the circle for Isabella Smith (21-8) who tied her career-high with 12 strikeouts in her 14th complete game of the season for the Camels. It marks the third time Smith has tied her career-best this season.
Ellen Palya (3-4) earned the loss for the Highlanders after surrendering the final run. Palya tossed the final 1.1 innings where she allowed two hits and struck out one. Natalie Jones started for Radford where she allowed seven hits, three earned runs and struck out two in five innings.
Campbell returns to action Wednesday with a doubleheader against UNCW starting at 4:00 PM.
