RADFORD, Va. - Campbell defeated top-seeded Longwood 5-1 to advance to the finals of the Big South Championship for a third straight season.
Campbell (40-15) picked up its 40th win of the season and stand one win away from clinching the a third-straight tournament title. It marks the fourth time in program history the Camels have earned 40 wins in a single season, last reaching the milestone in 2008.
Campbell took a 2-0 lead in the third inning after Makayla McClain and Madilyn Gillespie earned bases loaded walks. Claudia Ware made it 3-0 in the fifth with a solo home run to center field, her first of the season.
The Lancers got one back in the bottom of the fifth as Lauren Taylor drove in Longwood's lone run on a RBI single to right field.
Allyiah Swiney extend Campbell's lead in the sixth with a two run shot to deep over the wall in center field.
Ware finished 4-for-4 with two runs and one RBI while Swiney finished 1-for-3 with one run and two RBI. Savannah White went 1-for-2 with one run and a walk.
Isabella Smith (28-9) picked up her second win of the tournament, allowing one earned run, five hits and striking out five.
Maggie Chapin (6-10) took the loss for the Lancers after allowing two earned runs in 2.1 innings.
Campbell returns to Radford Softball Stadium on Saturday to play the winner of No. 3 USC Upstate and No. 1 Longwood. The Camels need just one win to claim the conference title while their opponent will need two.
