DURHAM, N.C. – Campbell topped George Mason 7-1 before being eliminated by Charlotte, 6-4, in NCAA Regional action Saturday at Duke Softball Stadium.
Campbell (42-18) wraps NCAA Regional play at 1-2, also falling to Charlotte (35-22) 7-2 on Friday.
The site host Blue Devils (47-10) will face the 49ers in Sunday's regional final, starting at noon.
GAME 1: CAMPBELL 7, GEORGE MASON 1
The Camels jumped on the board with a three-run first, plating runs on consecutive RBI singles from
Tyra Parker,
Makayla McClain and
Madilyn Gillespie with none out.
George Mason broke through in the top of the second with Sydney Bales' RBI single, but
Claudia Ware answered for CU in the home half with her second homer of the season, a solo blast to make it 4-1 Camels.
McClain added another for Campbell in the fourth with another RBI single, and the Camels added insurance an inning later with a
Savannah White RBI base hit and a Ware RBI double.
Campbell's top three in the order combined for seven of the team's 15 hits, with Ware going 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Parker also went 2-for-3 with a RBI and two runs. McClain was 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run.
Alyssa Henault, meanwhile, was 4-for-4 with a run scored for CU.
Bales was 2-for-3 for the Patriots.
Isabella Smith (29-11) picked up the win, allowing just a run on three hits with four strikeouts and two walks over five frames, while Jaimee Hardee finished the final two shutout innings, striking out and walking one while surrendering two hits.
Aly Rayle (19-11) took the loss, allowing four runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and a walk in three innings. Jordan Anderson also gave up three runs on five hits in 1.2 innings in relief.
GAME 2: CHARLOTTE 6, CAMPBELL 4
The Camels again jumped out to a first inning 3-0 lead in the nightcap, scoring on a Gillespie sacrifice fly to shallow right, followed by a
Delaney McDilda RBI groundout and a RBI infield single from Henault.
Cori Hoffler gave Charlotte its first run of the game in the second with an RBI single. Kassidy Krupit's solo homer off the top of the left field wall in the third brought the 49ers within a run before Ella Chancey's two-run home run in the fourth.
Krupit gave the 49ers the go-ahead score in the sixth, with a pair coming around on her single up the middle.
Chancey was 3-for-4 for the 49ers with two RBI and two runs, while Krupit posted a 2-for-4 night with two RBI and a run scored.
Gillespie plated a pair for the Camels, going 1-for-3 as all nine Camels in the order picked up a hit. Parker went 1-for-3 with two runs, while Ware went 1-for-4 with a run scored.
Sam Gress (23-13) earned the win for Charlotte in relief, going five innings with an unearned run on five hits with a strikeout after Campbell chased starter Lena Elkins in the first.
Smith (29-12) was charged with the loss, working the game's final two innings with a run on three hits, a strikeout and a walk.

Campbell finishes its 2023 season with its sixth overall and third-straight NCAA Regional appearance (1995, 2008, 2009, 2021, 2022 and 2023), also sweeping the Big South Conference regular season and tournament titles for the third consecutive year.
Under first year head coach
Trena Prater, the Camels hit the 40-win mark for the first time since 2008.
Additionally, nine Camels earned All-Big South honors, including Big South Pitcher of the Year
Isabella Smith and league Freshman of the Year
Madilyn Gillespie, as well as fellow First Team All-Big South honorees
Claudia Ware, who was also named to the all-academic team, and
