MACON, GA. – Three Camels notched hat tricks to lead No. 3 seed Campbell over No. 2 seed Furman 18-8 on Friday night at Five Star Stadium, advancing to Sunday's Big South Championship game.
Campbell added to its program single season win record, moving to 12-6 on the year while defeating Furman for the second time in 2023. Furman's season ends at 10-8.
Advancing to their second Big South title game appearance and first since 2017, the Camels combined for a 12-3 advantage in the second and third quarters, breaking open a matchup that was knotted 3-3 at the end of the opening period.
The Camels scored six straight goals to open the second period, including three from
Olivia Ohlmann, outscoring the Paladins 7-1 in the frame.
Ohlmann finished the night with a game-high five goals, adding two more in the third, also picking up a caused turnover and a ground ball in the win.
Rasa Welsh matched a career-high with seven points on three goals and four assists, while
Joslin Hanbury tallied three goals with a ground ball and a caused turnover.
Kyla Azzato posted four points on two goals and two assists, with
Shania Roehrich collected three points on two goals and an assist.
Sam Bischoff also scored a pair of goals with a ground ball and a caused turnover, while matching teammate
Katie Ochall with a game-high six draw controls.
Emma Strickland made five saves in goal with three caused turnovers and two ground balls, while
Chandler Stewart caused a pair of turnovers.
Delaney Nicolaus also snagged three ground balls and tacked on an assist.
Paige Harman paced Furman with five points on three goals and two assists, with Sophia Buzelis scoring twice. Katelyn Sousa caused four turnovers with three ground balls, and Andrea Fisher added three caused turnovers with two ground balls.
Campbell will take on top-seed and tournament host Mercer in Sunday's Big South title game, set for a noon start. The Bears eliminated High Point 18-7 in the tournament opener.
