Camels to host Elon on National TV Thursday night

BUIES CREEK - The Fighting Camels return to Gore Arena to face Elon Thursday at 5 p.m. in the first of two nationally televised games this season.

John Fanta and John Giannini will be on the call on CBS Sports Network. Chris Hemeyer and Jay Sonnhalter will handle the home radio call, available on GoCamels.com and The Varsity Network App. 

Gameday Promotions
The first 100 Campbell students will receive a Campbell branded insulated tumbler. The first 25 will also pick up a reversible Campbell bucket hat. 

A meal will be offered to Campbell students, faculty, and staff at the game. Food will be provided by CU sponsors including Bojangles, Chick-Fil-A, Papa Johns, and Pepsi. .

Tickets can be purchased at the Campbell Ticket Office at Gore Arena, online at GoCamels.com, or by calling the ticket office at 1-877-GoHumps.

Campbell University faculty and staff can receive discounted tickets for just $5. 

All kids 12 and under get in free with the purchase of an adult ticket. 

Series History
The Camels and Phoenix have met 37 times since 1962, but just six times since Campbell became a D1 program in 1977. Campbell is 13-24 all-time against Elon, and 3-3 in D1 contests. The teams last met in Dec. 16, 2020, a 66-56 loss at Elon. The Camels are 1-1 against Elon under head coach Kevin McGeehan.

Know Your Opponent
Elon brings an 8-11, 1-5 record into Thursday night's game. Their lone league win thus far was at home over NC A&T. 

Point guard Rob Higgins leads the squad with 13.7 ppg in league play and a team-high 3.2 apg on the season. Elon ranks second in the CAA in three-point percentage at 36.5% and knocks down nearly nine triples a game. 

The Phoenix were picked to finish 10th in the CAA preseason poll. They are led by second-year head coach Billy Taylor.

Last Time Out
Campbell fell at Towson 77-44 on Saturday in the second of two road games. Anthony Dell'Orso scored a team-high 15 to give him 14 consecutive games with 10+ points. 

Prior to Towson, the Camels picked up a 13-point win at William & Mary. Dell'Orso scored 26 while Laurynas Vaistaras added a career-high 21, making it two straight games the duo each scored 20+.

Looking Ahead
Campbell stays home this weekend and welcomes the College of Charleston to Gore Arena. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Saturday will be the CU Hall of Fame Game, where five former athletes become enshrined in the Campbell Hall of Fame. Among those is Cordell Wise, '70, a former Campbell Basketball Standout and future ABA draft pick.
