CHEYENNE, Wyo. – Campbell opened the 2024-25 NCAA wrestling season on Thursday night, falling against Wyoming, 28-12, in the Dual at the Daddy held at Cheyenne Frontier Days.

Wyoming came out to an early lead with wins in the first three bouts of the night. No. 2 ranked Jore Volk came away with a 2-0 decision over Anthony Molton at 125 pounds.

After a pin in the second round at 133 pounds, the Cowboys scored a sudden victory decision at 141 pounds at the hands of Cole Brooks.

Eugene Harney got the Fighting Camels on the board with an upset win over No. 15 ranked Gabe Willochell at 149 pounds. After a scoreless first period, Harney scored a reversal in the second to get two points. He then carried riding time for the entirety of the third period to earn over two minutes of riding time.

Wyoming scored their second sudden victory win at 157 pounds before another decision at 165 pounds, Cooper Voorhees over Kendrick Hodge, 4-2.

At 174 pounds, Dom Baker added to the Camels' point total with a 13-5 major decision over Brett McIntosh. This was Baker's first match at this weight, having wrestled last year at 165.

Wyoming followed that with a major decision of their own at 184 pounds, clinching the dual with a team score of 22-7.

Campbell scored their final points at heavyweight, as No. 7 Taye Ghadiali earned a tech fall (5:30) over Kevin Zimmer. Ghadiali's pursuit of a second All-American season began much like last year when he totaled 11 tech fall victories.

"It was a great environment and great experience for the team. You want more of those matches to go your way but this early it's all about learning. I think/hope our guys learned that there is a price to pay to win tough matches. Wyoming paid the price on top and they paid the price late in periods. I believe we have a team that wants to improve and they will have the opportunity all next week to respond to tough situations before we head out to Wranglemania Duals."
