Camels fall to #4 Nebraska in Dual on the Diamond

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Camels won two matches on the field at Jim Perry Stadium before ultimately falling at the hands of #4 Nebraska 40-6 in the Dual on the Diamond, presented by the Hickory Crawdads Friday evening.

The first three matches of the dual were held on the field of JPS, until dew accumulation on the mat forced the teams to move inside to Carter Gym to finish the bouts.

Campbell came out strong in the first two bouts, winning by decisions at 125 and 133 pounds. No. 29 Anthony Molton got things going with an 8-3 decision over Alan Koehler.

Domenic Zaccone continued his strong form with his third-straight victory, this one in upset fashion over No. 11 Jacob Van Dee. The wrestlers were scoreless in the first period, then each scored an escape in the second and third period. Zaccone scored the winning takedown halfway through the overtime period to give him the 4-1 win.

The Cornhuskers settled in to win the final eight matches in bonus-point fashion, led by falls from No. 5 ranked Ridge Lovett (149 pounds) and No. 4 Antrell Taylor (157).

Nebraska saw tech falls won by No. 4 Brock Hardy (141), No. 6 Lenny Pinto (174), No. 6 Silas Allred (184) and Harley Andrews at heavyweight.

QUOTABLE

Head Coach Scotti Sentes

"The wrestling community is resilient. We tried something new, and the mats got too slippery, and everyone pulled together and still made it happen. Kudos to Nebraska, the fans, the support staff and the referee for pulling together and rolling with the punches.

Nebraska has a trophy team and despite having five starters out, I was happy with how we fought and how the fans stuck with us. We are learning a lot and will continue to get better and learn as we go."
