Camels remain atop SoCon standings with 35-6 win over The Citadel

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Campbell Fighting Camels earned their fourth SoCon victory in a 35-6 defeat over The Citadel Friday evening at Carter Gym.

The Camels are now 10-3 (4-0 SoCon), and the Bulldogs now sit at 11-4 (3-2).

The match started with Anthony Molton scoring the pin over Malik Hardy at 125 pounds. The result is Molton's fourth fall of the season.

Domenic Zaccone followed that up with a tech fall (4:51) over George Rosas to build an 11-0 match lead.

The Citadel would claim the next two matches at 141 and 149, but the Camels would sweep the remaining matches and hold the Bulldogs to only six team points.

Freshman Chris Earnest and Dom Baker earned back-to-back decisions over Hayden Watson (10-8) and Ben Haubert (8-5) respectively.

Austin Murphy scored a bonus-point win over Brodie Porter at 174 pounds with a 17-4 major decision, his eighth bonus-point win on the year.

At 184 pounds, Caleb Hopkins recorded his seventh pin on the year, this time over Adam Ortega in 2:36. It is Hopkins' second first-period pin in a week, doing so against App State last Friday.

Following him, his brother Levi Hopkins earned a 9-4 decision against Patrick Brophy at 197 pounds. He was followed by heavyweight Taye Ghadiali and his ninth tech fall on the year, this time over Ben Stemmet (2:53).

On the importance of staying focused in the back half of the season:
"It's important so I can keep my eye on the prize, not focusing on wins and losses. I'm focused on my process and growth. I'm focused on getting to national championships and All-American. I know that if I keep working toward that, then I'm going to get there."
