BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Luchianna Cardello made 13 saves and Melissa Sconone tallied four goals to lead Hofstra past Campbell in its first CAA game Saturday afternoon at Barker-Lane Stadium.
Campbell (3-5, 0-1 CAA) led 4-2 after the first quarter thanks to two goals from Lexi Goff. The Pride (4-4, 0-1) answered with consecutive goals from Taylor Mennella while limiting the Camels to one goal in the second period to take a 6-5 advantage into halftime.
Joslin Hanbury tied the game after the intermission with her first of four second half goals. Hofstra responded with four straight goals in a 2:37 span in the third and took its largest lead of the day at 13-8 with less than three minutes left in the fourth. Hanbury tacked on two more goals in the final two minutes for the Camels to end the game.
Ally Heath tallied her sixth multi-goal game of the season with two goals while both Delaney Nicolaus and Katie Ochall had four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Sconone scored three of her four goals in the second half, including two in the final period. Kerry Walser joined Mennella by recording a hat trick for Hofstra as well.
Both teams finished even on shots with 28 each but Campbell held a 23-19 edge in shots on goal. Campbell also held a slight 14-13 edge on draws.
Cardello made nine of her 13 saves in the second and third quarters, limiting CU to three goal across those periods.
The Camels continue CAA play next weekend with games at Drexel on Friday and nationally-ranked Stony Brook on Sunday.
