BOONE, N.C. – The Campbell Fighting Camels took second place at the Southern Conference Championships, with three individuals claiming first place on Saturday at the Holmes Convocation Center.

As a team, the Camels came in second place in the conference championships with 97.5 points.

Austin Murphy, Levi Hopkins and Taye Ghadiali each secured their trips to the NCAA Championships in Kansas City by winning their respective divisions. In addition, Ghadiali was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler.

Murphy used a fall and two decisions on his way to the top of the podium. Hopkins and Ghadiali both won all their matches by pin to finish an undefeated season against conference opponents for both wrestlers.

In addition to those thee, Domenic Zaccone and Dom Baker each secured their trips to Nationals by finished second at 133 and 165. Zaccone won his first two matches before falling in a 5-4 decision in the finals.

Baker also lost in an 8-3 decision in the finals, but then won his true-place match to receive the second SoCon allocation at 165 pounds.

I'm disappointed in the outcome, but we have five guys headed to the national tournament with possibly one or two wildcards. The focus shifts to those guys. No point in feeling sorry for ourselves.
