Crouch Wins 125-Pound Title as Five Camels Place at Southeast Open

SALEM, Va. – In Campbell wrestling's season-opening tournament, redshirt freshman Colby Crouch had a steller collegiate debut and claimed first place in the 125-pound division at the Southeast Open on Nov. 2. 

Crouch's title highlighted a successful opener for the Fighting Camels, who saw five wrestlers place in the freshman/sophomore division at the event hosted by Virginia Tech at the Cregger Center.

Crouch went 4-0 on the day, earning three decisions and one technical fall to secure the 125-pound championship.

Four other Camels finished in the top six of their respective divisions. Sophomore Jonathan Chang advanced to the semifinals with three straight decision wins before dropping his final two matchups by major decision to place fourth at 149 pounds.

Sophomores Ryan Phillips and Kendrick Hodge battled through the consolation bracket to earn fifth-place finishes in their divisions. Sophomore Sawyer VanRider rounded out the group of Campbell place-winners, finishing sixth at 197 pounds.

Overall, 18 Camels made their season debuts, combining for 38 victories across 70 matches.

UP NEXT

The Camels will compete at the Mason Duals on Nov. 8, hosted by George Mason at the George Mason Field House in Fairfax, Va. Campbell will face George Mason, SoCon foe The Citadel, and Division III Williams College, with action beginning at 9 a.m.
