ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Shannon Hanna and Levi Hopkins each qualified for their third trip to the NCAA Wrestling Championships with their performances at the Southern Conference Wrestling Championship, held Friday and Saturday at the Kimmel Arena.
 
The Camels finished the tournament with 71.5 points, behind The Citadel (73.5) and defending champion App State (79.5).
 
Chattanooga and Gardner-Webb round out the top five teams, followed by Bellarmine, VMI, Davidson and Presbyterian.
 
Hopkins went 3-0 at the event, winning the individual title at 197 pounds. He recorded two bonus-point victories before defeating #24 Patrick Brophy from The Citadel in sudden victory of the finals, 8-5.
 
After falling in the tiebreaker round in the 141 finals, Hanna clinched his trip to Philadelphia with a 4-2 decision over AJ Rallo from Bellarmine in the true second place match.
 
Chris Earnest also finished in second place, but the SoCon only has one NCAA allocation at 157 pounds. He fell in a tight 4-2 decision to the No. 1 seed Noah Castillo in the finals.
 
In addition, four Camels finished third in their respective weight classes. Anthony Molton, Wynton Denkins, Dom Baker and Riley Augustine all won their consolation finals.
 
Hanna and Hopkins will now await the announcement of the NCAA tournament bracket, which will be announced in the evening on Wednesday, March 12. The championships will be held at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pa., on March 20-22.
