Camels fall in CAA title game

BUIES CREEK - The Fighting Camels came up a game short, falling in the CAA Championship game for the second straight season. Two-seeed Elon, coming out of the losers bracket, swept Saturday's double header to capture the CAA title.

Campbell finishes the 2025 season 37-20 in head coach Emily Carosone's first season at the helm. Campbell has now reached the CAA title game in each of its first two seasons in the league.

Megan Gregory, Tyra Parker, and Charlie Montgomery were all named to the CAA all-tournament team.

Game One Recap
Elon started the day with a 5-0 win behind a pitching gem from Taylor Cherry and Meredith Wells.

Elon struck for two in the top of the first, as the first three batters reached safely off Campbell starter Hannah Leierer. Two came across as Leierer managed to retire the next two and get an out on the bases to limit the damage.

Campbell put the leadoff hitter aboard in four straight innings from the second through fifth, but were unable to cash in. The best chance to push a run across came in the fourth with two on before Amber Desena's deep fly ball came up just short of the warning track in left to end the inning.

After cruising through the middle innings, Leierer loaded the bases in the seventh before being relieved. All three inherited runners came across to push Elon's lead to 5-0. There was nothing doing for Campbell in the home half, as the Camels fell 5-0.

Leierer was tabbed with the loss and a final line of 6.0+ IP, 8H, 5ER, 4BB, 0K. Elon's Taylor Cherry picked up the win, tossing four shutout innings in her start.

Campbell tallied just three hits in the game, coming from Swiney, Ford, and Davis.

Game Two Recap
Elon got on the board first again, this time on a sac bunt that led to an error and an unearned run. Tyra Parker limited the damage with a tremendous diving catch on the warning track in left-center to leave a runner at third and the deficit to one.

The Phoenix pushed the lead to four after a pair of home runs from Kaitlyn Wells and Chloe Hatzopoulos in the third.

The Camels offense got on the board for the first time of the day on a two-run single from Alyssa Armijo in the top of the fourth to cut the deficit in half. Elon had the answer and plated two more in the bottom of the frame to push it right back to four.

Neither team found a run the rest of the way, as the Camels went quietly in the seventh for the 6-2 final.

Megan Gregory took the loss, tossing 5.0 IP, 7H, 6R, 5ER, 4BB, 0K. Elon's Meredith Wells earned the win going four innings and allowing just two runs.

Hannah Cornetto led the way at the dish for the Camels with two hits in the winner-take-all game.
