Camels return to the track on Friday at Liberty Open

BUIES CREEK – Campbell track & field is scheduled to compete at the Liberty Open on Friday, Jan. 23 in Lynchburg, Va. 

The meet was originally scheduled as a two-day event but due to the threat of winter weather it is now one day meet.

Emelyn Lacour set a new program record in the women's 1000m (2:56.99), as Campbell track & field rewrote the record books at the Tryon Winter Invitational and Mondo College Invitational. 

Janelle Caldeira and Elise Graves competed in the women's pentathlon on Friday finishing 16th and 19th, respectively. Caldeira posted 2612 points across the five events and now moves into ninth all time and Graves moves into 10th all-time with 2323 points. 

Delaney Horton moves to fourth all-time in the 1000m with at time of 3:05.42 followed by Ava Childress with the fifth fastest time in program history (3:08.99) and Kylee Dinterman with the sixth best time (3:09.43). 

Mario Cantarero posted a time of 2:32.53 to finish ninth in the men's 1000m and moved into fourth all-time at Campbell in the event. Jacob Morrison finished just behind with a time of 2:33.99 finishing 11th to now sit fifth all-time in the event. 

Elias Morris and Jorge Becerra found their spots the record book in the men's 600m. Morris posted a time of 1:23.11 to move into the second fastest time in program history with Becerra just behind for third (1:26.45). 

In her Campbell debut, Ella Hess ran the third fastest time in program history (1:43.63) to finish 12th in the women's 600m. 

Jacob Carroll finished fifth in the men's pole vault with a new personal best mark of 4.30m and Aedan Sampey set a new personal record with a mark of 3.85. Carroll's mark of 4.30 is still good for ninth all-time. 

Isabella Bernard finished fourth in the women's pole vault with a 3.10m and Zoie Hembree followed with a fifth place finish with a mark of 3.10m.
