Camels win third straight with 16-15 victory over Winthrop

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Campbell survived a late rally from Winthrop to win its third in a row, 16-15, Wednesday afternoon at Eagle Field.

Chloe Annibell recorded her first career hat trick and scored the game winner with 1:20 left to lift the Camels (3-1) over the Eagles (1-1).

The Eagles jumped out to a 3-2 lead after the first quarter, but Campbell owned the second quarter, winning the frame 6-0 to take an 8-3 lead into halftime. Hailey Kohlmann, Annibell and Emily Wilson all had two goals in the first half.

Wilson also had a hat trick and recorded two assists. Kohlmann was a force once again on the defensive end, causing six turnovers and grabbing six ground balls.

Winthrop came storming back with a 7-1 run to start the third quarter, taking a 10-9 lead with 6:39 to play. Caroline Laur and Paige White responded for the Camels to gain the lead once again, and the teams went to the fourth quarter tied, 11-11.

The teams exchanged two goals apiece and were deadlocked at 13 before the Eagles rattled off two goals to take a 15-13 lead with 6:28 to play.

Campbell responded thanks to the combination of Wilson and McKenna Duncan. First, Wilson scored off an assist from Duncan at the 5:39 mark. Winthrop won the draw control, but a turnover gave the Camels possession once again.

In the offensive third, Wilson earned a free position attempt. Instead of taking the shot, she passed it to Duncan who found the back of the net and tied the game with 3:46 to play.

Winthrop won the draw control once again and had two shots on goal, including one free position opportunity, but Alana Lepore came away with two critical saves to keep the Eagles off the board.

Annibell completed her hat trick and put the Camels ahead, 16-15, as she drove down the middle and slotted her shot into the bottom right of goal with 1:20 to play. It was the sophomore's first career multi-goal game and hat trick. Claire Witt won the ensuing draw control, her second of the day, and the Camels held possession until the final whistle.
