ELON, N.C. – Sophomore
Haley Krebs delivered a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Campbell softball team to a 4-3 win over Elon in the opening round of the CAA Softball Championship at Hunt Softball Park.
The victory sends the No. 3-seeded Camels into the next round after Campbell erased a late deficit against the host Phoenix in a rematch of the 2025 CAA Championship meeting.
Elon struck first with two hits in the opening inning to take a 1-0 lead. Campbell answered in the second when sophomore
Emma Slutzah drove in the tying run with an RBI single. Both teams were held scoreless in the third and fourth innings before Elon regained the lead in the fifth on a two-run single.
The Camels responded immediately in the bottom half of the inning. Graduate student
Amber DeSena and senior
Allyiah Swiney opened the frame with consecutive singles before senior
Charlie Montgomery brought home a run with a sacrifice bunt. After back-to-back walks loaded the bases, sophomore
Hannah Cornetto drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game at 3.
Campbell's defense held Elon to one hit over the final two innings to keep the game tied entering the seventh.
Junior
Janel Day opened the bottom of the inning with a walk, and Cornetto followed with a single to put runners on the corners. Krebs then smacked a 1-2 pitch to first base to score the winning run and secure Campbell's walk-off victory.

Campbell collected hits in six of seven innings, drew eight walks and had four players finish with multiple hits.
